Recording a product review video on your own

Are you filming your product review video alone? Cool, let's get started!

There are only three simple steps required and the whole thing takes no longer than 15 minutes

You will find simple step by step instructions below. We have also provided you with an example of what your finished video could look like.

This is what your product review video could look like at the end

1. Record video

If you have a tripod for your smartphone, use it, it's more comfortable because you have both hands free. If you don't have a tripod, that's no problem at all.

First you film several individual sequences. After you have recorded a sequence, you stop the recording and then film the next sequence. The various sequences are then put together in a second step to form the finished video. Don't worry, we'll show you how to do this in step 2 of the instructions.

It's best to sit at a table to film. It is very important that you film everything in landscape format. We recommend that you record the following individual sequences, but you can also come up with different sequences yourself. add more:

- You open the watch box and show the watch and warranty card

- You hold the watch in your hand and show it from all sides

- You put the watch around your wrist and show it from all sides

- You put the clock on the table and show it from all sides

It's best to talk about your experiences with the watch while filming, about the functions, the materials, what you particularly like, etc. The more details you show, the more interesting and helpful your video is for the viewers. You can also choose the individual sequences differently, as there are no limits to your creativity. It is important that you have at least 4 different, individual sequences.

2. Put individual sequences together and create transitions

So your sequences are in the can, very good! Now these have to be put together so that we have a finished video. Let's go! For this you need a free app, we use the app YouCut - Video Editing from InShot Video Editor. The app is free. FYI: the app will from time to time suggest that you upgrade to the paid premium version, but this is not necessary. We only need the standard features. You can download the app here:

Android

Iphone

2.1. Now open the app and click on the + at the bottom center.

2.2. Then select all your video sequences that you previously recorded and confirm.

Videosequenzen auswählen

Your individual video sequences have now been merged. You can press play and watch the video in its entirety if you want. But we would like to edit the video a bit by trimming the individual sequences and creating nice transitions between the individual sequences.

2.3. Trimming

Trimming means that the individual sequences are trimmed at the beginning and/or end. This is not absolutely necessary, it depends on how cleanly you recorded the individual sequences. For example, at the end of a sequence you may find yourself placing your smartphone on the table before you stop recording. This is of course unpleasant. In the timeline at the bottom you can see your sequences strung together.

Aneinander gereihte Sequenzen

You can move your finger back and forth on the timeline by scrolling. You will see a symbol where the next one begins after one sequence.

Symbol auf Zeitstrahl

If you tap on a single sequence, it will be highlighted. You can recognize a marked sequence by the orange border.

Ausgewählte Sequenz

Now tap your first sequence to select it and then press TRIM. Now you can move the two sliders to the right and left to select the beginning or trim the end of the sequence. By pressing the Play button you can play the trimmed sequence as a preview. Make sure that you also take the tone into account, so that you don't cut out a part where you're saying something interesting. If you are satisfied, click the checkbox.

Trimmen

Then select the second sequence and do exactly the same. Then select the third sequence and continue until you have finally trimmed all the individual sequences.

2.4. Beautify transitions between individual sequences

Now we just have to improve the transitions between the individual sequences a bit and then we're done! Not that hard so far, right?

We don't need a transition at the very beginning of your video, so select the second sequence and then press ANIMATION.

Animation

You will then see different options, you can select them and you can also see directly in the preview what the effect looks like. Once you have decided on an animation, click the checkbox.

Übergang auswählen

Then repeat the process for the remaining sequences.

2.5. Check your video

Scroll back to the beginning of your video and watch the result by pressing the play button. Are you satisfied? We hope so! ;-) So your video is ready, congratulations!

You are welcome to experiment with other functions of the app, you can insert text or stickers, apply filters, etc. If you didn't speak during the recording, you can also add music. The possibilities are almost unlimited.

Whether you want to edit the video further at this point is entirely up to you. It's no longer necessary per se, but if you've got the filmmaking fever, then go ahead!

2.6. Save

When you're finished with your video, all you have to do is save it. To do this, press SAVE at the top right and confirm the settings again with SAVE. Complete! The video is now saved on your smartphone in your video gallery.

3. Upload video

So the video is in the can, great! Now it just needs to be uploaded to YouTube. To do this you need the YouTube app. If you don't have it yet, download it from the Play Store or Apple Store .

3.1. Open the YouTube app and click on the circle with the + in it at the bottom center.
